The poet, narrator, essayist, literary critic, translator and university professor Jesús David Curbelo received this Monday in Havana the Knight Order of Arts and Letters from France.
“This award is directed (…) with great affection as a tribute to all his work from the essay, the translation and the writing and the always faithful accompaniment to French writers and artists from Havana and from different cities of the world,” said the French ambassador to Cuba, Laurent Burin Des Roziers.
Curbelo was honored to receive the distinction. «It is a privilege for me, that a country and a literature that I admire so much and whose language I have also worked on, well have this deference to my work that I believe has humbly served so that this French literature can circulate among readers of the Spanish language. “, he said on the spot.
The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Alliance Française in the midst of the activities for the Month of French Culture in Cuba.
Jesús David Curbelo (Camagüey, 1965), has published the novels hell (1999) and land and water issues (2008), in addition to the poetry notebooks God’s beggar (2004) and Jail, memory and shelteror (2008). She won the National Award for Literary Critics in 2001 and 2004 and the Silvestre de Balboa Award in 2006 for all of her literary work.
Among the Cubans who bear the insignia awarded in recent years are the flutist Niurka González Núñez, the filmmakers Enrique Pineda Barnet and Iván Giroud, and the choreographer Rosario Cárdenas.

The Knight Order of Arts and Letters has been awarded since 1957 and is one of the main decorations among the four ministerial orders of the French Republic.
