The Cuban regime prevents the return of Omara Ruiz Urquiola for the third time

(EFE).- Cuban opponent Omara Ruiz Urquiola denounced that she was prevented from returning to Cuba for the third time since she arrived in Miami in 2021 to undergo medical treatment and accused the airlines of violating US laws with “complicity” of the Government of this country.

“This is the height of the outrage. I have my house, my life in Cuba, I have nothing outside of Cuba,” said the art historian, former university professor and member of the San Isidro Movement (MSI).

Ruiz Urquiola criticized both the Government of Cuba and that of the United States. “It is very painful to know that the world’s great democracy is making fun of us, leaving us helpless,” he added.

Omara, who was ill with cancer and has received medical treatment in the US, is the sister of Ariel Ruiz Urquiola, a human rights activist exiled in Europe who has staged several protests at the UN office in Geneva and other organizations to denounce to the Cuban government.

This Saturday the art historian tried to board a Southwest company flight to Cuba from Fort Lauderdale International Airport

This Saturday the art historian tried to board a Southwest company flight to Cuba from Fort Lauderdale International Airport, about 40 kilometers from Miami.

However, the airline did not allow it, arguing that the Cuban authorities did not authorize its entry to Cuba.

The activists who accompanied the opponent to the airport took videos in which Ruiz Urquiola denounced the situation and demanded that Southwest show them “the agreement that enables them to go against a human right within the territory of the United States,” according to the activist. Caroline Barrero.

She and other Cuban opponents in Miami filled the networks with messages about what happened to Ruiz Urquiola, who said that he urgently needs to return to Cuba because a family farm in Pinar del Río (western Cuba) was destroyed by the hurricane and his mother She is alone there, with no help other than the neighbors.

“For the third time, the complicity of an airline in the United States and the Cuban regime prevents Omara Ruiz Urquiola from returning to her land and her mother. The regime does not believe in families or in those basic ties that make us who we are. There is no forgiveness for that crime,” Hilda Landrove wrote.

“The problem the Cuban government has is with me in Cuba, not on US soil. This is illegal,” said Omara Ruiz, who said she is not going to “get tired” and will continue to insist that her right to return to Cuba.
