The Cuban Police took more than a year to capture a cattle thief

Raidel Perera Romero, a fugitive from justice for more than a year, has been detained by the Police in Santo Domingo, Villa Clara. According to Fuerza del Pueblo, a page related to the Ministry of the Interior, the “antisocial element”, who had an 11-year prison sentence for robbery with force, was hiding in the “intricate areas” of the towns of Manacas and Mordazo.

It was the neighbors themselves who denounced him, after committing several cattle thefts. Now, says the publication on Facebook, “he will have to serve a sentence for the crimes of robbery with force, prisoner evasion and theft and slaughter of large cattle.”

Now, says the publication on Facebook, “he will have to serve a penalty for the crimes of robbery with force, prisoner evasion and theft and slaughter of major cattle”

Villa Clara leads the ranking of cattle theft, which in 2022, according to official data, a total of 82,445 head of cattle -45,315 cows and 37,130 horses- were claimed throughout the island, the equivalent of 22 million pounds of meat.

Only in that province there were 12,243 cases, compared to 4,079 the previous year, triple. In second position is Holguín, which lost 9,825 heads in 2022, doubling the bad data from 2021 (4,655), and in third, Matanzas, which went from 2,926 to 8,159 losses.

Last May, desperate for a crime that does not subside, the Government pointed out as responsible for the theft of cattle the “procedure for the slaughter and consumption of bovine meat from self-consumption”, approved last year, which they described as ” wrong judgement.”
