The Cuban newspaper ‘Invasor’ plays with the chain but not with the monkey

The Cuban newspaper 'Invasor' plays with the chain but not with the monkey

The opinion section of the official newspaper of Ciego de Ávila, Invader, does not give truce to the Government. Just a week after the Article by Saily Sosa in which the serious economic errors committed by the authorities in the tourism sector were exposed, today it is another of its journalists, Mario Martín Martín, who throws himself into an open grave on the mantra of voluntarism to which they have constantly resorted and for 60 years years all the officials of the regime, although he limits it to those who defend orthodoxy.

“I am an extreme defender of a statement that is heard everywhere, especially in the guidelines of those who lead us at the highest level in the country: ‘You have to change your mentality’. It seems easy, and magic wands are not needed to assert such assertion, but it is clear that achieving it is not a matter of goodwill,” says the columnist.

In the article, titled It seems easy, is it? the journalist describes himself as a person trying to stay optimistic, but without straying from reality. “You can look at the future as pretty as you want, but there’s no way to color the present,” she warns. Thus, Martín rebels against the magical solution of “changing the mentality”, since he considers it a “truth of a platitude”.

“The road is plagued with immobility, inertia, slowness and disdain, ‘paved’ by those who try to repeat sterile formulas and remain static to continue plowing the sea,” he points out, in a criticism that appeals to Fidel Castro to recall that ” They could not destroy the Revolution from the outside, but from the inside.”

Martín adds that being in the 21st century it is inconceivable that there is talk of calling meetings when so many things could be resolved with a simple phone call.

The author saves the country’s top leaders from burning and warns that it was Prime Minister Manuel Marrero who mentioned the “self-blockade” that does so much “damage, even more” than that of the United States. Miguel Díaz-Canel also free from the scolding because “he has insisted” that what it is about is “advancing through our own efforts”.

But from then on, the bureaucrats are collectively singled out for making two serious mistakes. “The lie that surrounds voluntarism is one. Impossible delivery dates to which, however, we are committed and we are saying yes until reality tells us no,” he alleges, a case reminiscent of the Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, who last year refused to rectify the forecast of international travelers until the month of October itself, when the disaster was evident.

“The second – he continues – are the meetings. Oh, the blessed meetings! Despite the fact that it has been publicly recognized, even by the country’s highest authorities, the excessive number of those that are called daily, in all instances, one has the feeling that the call has been interpreted in reverse. They don’t decrease, they increase,” he laments.

Martín adds that being in the 21st century it is inconceivable to talk about calling meetings when so many things could be resolved with a simple phone call.

The columnist finally ends up falling into his own trap, since he does not point out possible solutions or solutions to the many problems that affect the nation, but instead asks for a change of mentality, as he had reproached the officials. “At this point, the reader with some logic could say: ‘But by solving these details we are not going to change the panorama.’ And, in truth, it will not fill us with “loaves and fishes”, but it would open better ways to achieve it” , finish off.
