The Cuban bishops ask for the Island "the necessary changes, so long desired"

One day after 15 Cuban priests issue a letter Against the possible repression of the Government to the march of 15N, the bishops have spoken. In your statement, made public this Thursday, the prelates do not mention the Government of the Island or the Archipelago platform, but consider that “it is essential to implement the necessary changes, so long desired, that favor a dignified and happy life for all children, here, in this land of ours “.

The bishops begin their letter by saying that they have observed in recent weeks “the increase in a climate of tension and confrontation that is not healthy and does not benefit anyone.”

For this reason, they list several considerations, the first of which is that “every Cuban should be able to express and share freely and with respect, their personal opinions, their thoughts or their convictions, even when they differ from the majority.”

The bishops begin their letter by saying that they have observed in recent weeks “the increase in a climate of tension and confrontation that is not healthy and does not benefit anyone”

“Any act of violence between us, whether physical, verbal or psychological, seriously wounds the soul of the Cuban nation and contributes even more to the sorrow, suffering and sadness of our families,” they continue.

In addition, the bishops assert that “there is an increasingly urgent need for the involvement of Cubans in a nation project that involves and motivates everyone; that takes into account the differences, without exclusions or marginalization” and that “it is necessary to implement mechanisms where , without fear of intimidation and reprisals, everyone can be heard and dissatisfaction is channeled in the face of the harsh daily realities that overwhelm so many, especially the most impoverished and vulnerable. “

With a tone that never ceases to be prudent, they exhort “everyone” to spare no effort “so that the paths of understanding, reconciliation and peace are paved” and that “a harmonious and civilized dialogue be established in which find the best solutions to the problems that concern us “.
