The Cuban authorities cannot with the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant

More blackouts are expected in Cuba: the Guiteras thermoelectric plant stopped working, again

The Electric Union of Cuba (UNE) announced again this Friday that the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant (CTE), in Matanzas, stopped working. In a brief paragraph, towards the middle of its daily communication, the state company specifies that the plant “is operating with a high consumption of water due to leaks in the boiler, for which it is necessary to leave it during today’s schedule to detect and correct the defect.

Just yesterday, the UNE complained on social media of the “fake news” of “its non-synchronization and total blackouts”, well, they assured in their post, “synchronized at dawn today” and was contributing 203 megawatts (MW) to the national grid. Less than 24 hours was the validity of that publication.

Like every day, the UNE counts the CTE out of service, in this case, units 6 and 7 of the Máximo Gómez (in Mariel, Artemisa), Otto Parellada (in Havana), unit 3 of the Ernesto Guevara (in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque), unit 4 of Diez de Octubre (in Nuevitas, Camagüey), unit 2 of Lidio Ramón Pérez (in Felton, Holguín) and units 4 and 6 of Renté, in Santiago de Cuba, which also has unit 3 under maintenance.

“It really is a lack of respect or ineptitude what there is with the Guiteras. Please, do not underestimate the intelligence of the people anymore”

On the Facebook page of the state company there are abundant negative comments on the company’s statement. “When are we going to have good news?” asks Olga Cepero. “Our body can’t resist anymore, there are moments when I feel completely faded. Who was going to tell me that at my age and with what we Cubans have done we were going to go backwards like this?”

Yoandi Puertas García cries out: “How is it possible that every day and I repeat every day there are units and thermoelectric plants out of service? It really is incomprehensible that this happens in the 21st century. If they are all so bad, can’t we reverse in anything other than this? Or does no one realize that in the world a blackout represents a delay without words? Imagine living in the dark. That’s why we are so bad. Blessed are those responsible “.

“It really is a lack of respect or ineptitude what there is with the Guiteras. Please, do not underestimate the intelligence of the people anymore,” Niurky Farrat asks.

Cubans, in short, already know what the UNE statement means: more blackouts. The electricity company forecasts for this Friday, in fact, up to a 40% deficit. For a maximum demand of 3,150 MW, in the peak hour, an availability of 1,956 MW is estimated, that is, a deficit of 1,194 MW, but it warns that the “affectation”, that is, the disconnection, will be 1,264 MW in that schedule.

With blackouts, protests are predictable. Inventory Project recorded only Wednesday night 19 demonstrations throughout the Island.

To Zapata Swamp and Colón (Matanzas), Altamira (Santiago de Cuba), Velasco and San Andrés (Holguín), places such as Bejucal and Quivicán (Mayabeque) or Florida (Camagüey) were added. With them, there are already 172 protests confirmed by the independent platform since July 14, when scheduled power cuts became common.
