The teamwork, with the different security forces of the state, has resulted in a 20% decrease in the crime rate, as highlighted by Chief Commissioner Wilman José Rivera Torres, director of PoliTáchira.
Throughout the year the institution has shown responsibility, discipline and an action that has been in accordance with the Law, to provide the best service to the people of Tachira.
“We have important statistical numbers achieved by working as a team with the ZODI, Zonal 21, which has left us with positive results throughout the year 2024, good statistics, by managing to reduce crime in the area by between 15 and 20 percent. Táchira,” said Rivera Torres.
These figures become more relevant when considering the geographical position, since it is a dynamic border entity, with a high flow of people who pass through this area massively and constantly, “we have managed to keep crime at bay,” Rivera Torres highlighted.
A constant evaluation through the Venezuelan Security Observatory reflects that the Andean entity remains one of the safest states in Venezuela.
Prioritized crimes
Personal injuries, a product of domestic violence, is one of the crimes that unfortunately had a slight growth, “it affects us because when the complaints arrive, the aggression has already been generated. Many cases are arguments between couples, family members, a situation that makes its control complex, beyond the fact that campaigns and important work for prevention have been generated.”
He explained that to date, a year ago there were 383 personal injuries and this year it stood at 416. As for homicides, there was a reduction, from 29 in 2023 to 25 in 2024.
Petty theft, which marks the theft of cell phones, vehicle rearview mirrors, among others, went from 325 to 219, that is, almost a hundred fewer crimes compared to the previous year. Vehicle theft fell from 86 to 71. While the number of kidnappings remains at zero.
“Week after week, the Venezuelan Security Observatory gives us statistics, based on that, we plan and create the most effective plan to attack and reduce the crime rate every week, and this year it gave us an important number.”
Regarding narcotics, Riveras Torres stated that this year 1,265 kilos of different types of drugs were seized. While the foot of force, this year 2024 had a slight increase. Two classes of school officials graduated and others who rejoined the institution.
Regarding operations, this year street work was reinforced with the arrival of motorized and radio patrol units, sent from the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace.
