The cost of the basic food basket rose 9.5% in October

The cost of the basic food basket (CBA) registered an increase of 9.5% in October, which determined that a typical family -made up of two adults and two minors- needed to receive income of $62,105 to avoid being placed in a situation of indigence, The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported this Thursday.

The agency also noted that the cost of the total basic basket (CBT)which in addition to food measures clothing products and services, increased 9% andl last month, so the same family group needed to have $139,737 in order not to fall below the poverty line.

In the first ten months of the year, the CBT increased 88.4% and the CBA, 83.5%.

Meanwhile, in the last twelve months, the food basket accumulated a rise of 93.1% and the total basket of 100.8%.

The percentage difference between one and the other is due to the fact that the rates for public services and transportation in general are within the prices regulated by the government, while food was one of the items that rose the most in recent months.
