He new interior ministerPNP (R) General Commander Vicente Tiburcio, has given his first interview a day after being sworn into office and announced a “strong hand” against the “corrupt police”.
The new head of the aforementioned portfolio stated that one of the motivations he had when accepting the call of the new president José Jerí was “to see my institution with these bad elements from the outside.”
For this reason, in conversation with RPP, he announced that “we are going to use a strong hand. Enough with the corruption in the National Police of Peru (PNP). “We have to remove the bad police officers from the institution.”
“There is no room for corrupt police. We are going to ask for powers (from Congress), because the disciplinary regime is too soft. Anyone who is outside the law will be expelled,” emphasized Vicente Tiburcio.
When asked about whether the reform of the Police which he proposes will only be at the level of non-commissioned officers, officers or senior commanders, the new Minister of the Interior assured that this will be applied “at all levels.”

“Those police officers are going to be polygraphed and they are going to be given that assignment. We are going to make a selection of the objectives. We are going to give this crime a different treatment. We are going to have healthy competition in the Police,” he explained.
