The conviction of a former Colombian soccer star for trying to bring cocaine to Spain is confirmed

He Superior Court of Antioquia confirmed the eight-year prison sentence for the former Colombian soccer player Diego Leon Osoriocaptured in 2023 at the airport José María Córdova de Rionegro (northwest), when he tried to travel to Spain with about two kilos of cocaine, the Prosecutor’s Office reported this Friday.

On May 21, Osorio54 years old, was sentenced in the first instance. This decision was appealed by the defense and now the Court confirmed the sentence.

“During the inspection of the luggage, about a kilogram of cocaine hydrochloride was found hidden in the insoles of four pairs of tennis shoes,” the Prosecutor’s Office recalled in a statement this Friday.

The former player, who was one of the stars of the Colombian team in the 90s along with Carlos ‘El Pibe’ Valderrama and Rene Higuitawas arrested at the same airport in 2016 and, three years later, was convicted of the crimes of trafficking, manufacturing and marketing of narcotics.

Likewise, in 2002 he allegedly negotiated 40 kilos of cocaine with undercover DEA agents in Miami (Florida).
