In July 2021, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked the then governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, to relieve Zamarripa Aguirre of his position, because the state remains in the top places for daily homicides in the country.
Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre was appointed as Attorney General of the State of Guanajuato in 2009 with the then governor Juan Manuel Oliva Ramírez, later he was ratified in the position by Miguel Márquez Márquez. During the administration of Rodríguez Vallejo, he took over as the first state prosecutor for a period of nine more years.
Zamarripa Aguirre has a degree in Law from the Universidad de la Salle Bajío, and a Master in Criminal Legal Sciences from the University of Guanajuato. He has a Diploma in Criminal Law from the University of Virginia (United States) and studied at the National Academy of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in Quantico, Virginia; He was certified in Drug and Criminal Investigation by the United States Department of Justice and its Drug Enforcement Administration Agency, DEA.
In public service, he has served as Ministerial Official, Agency Secretary, Delegate and Agent of the Public Ministry, Zone Head, General Director of Preliminary Investigations, General Coordinator of the Ministerial Police and Deputy Attorney General for Specialized Investigation.
López Obrador also asked the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to carry out a review to rule out any type of link between the authority and organized crime.
And Guanajuato is one of the entities with the most intentional homicides.
