The consumption of Uruguayans continues to fall, says a recent study

The firm organized a breakfast with mass consumption companies to share market reports.

According to data from the latest Scanntech Radar, corresponding to July, they show a 6% drop in consumption by Uruguayans compared to the same month in 2021. So far this year, the drop is 5%.

“In the largest stores we see a greater drop. Regarding the categories: personal care (-9.9%) and cleaning (-7.3%) are the ones that decreased the most”, explained the general manager of Scanntech, Verónica Bustamante.

Fall by departments and municipalities

In reference to consumption by areas of the country, Salto and Paysandú are the departments that show the greatest drop (-16%), linked to the difference in prices with Argentina. The reduction in consumption covers all categories.

Regarding the variation in Montevideo, municipalities A and D are the ones with the greatest falls (-7% and -6%, respectively).

On the other hand, Bustamante announced that in recent years the segment of products called “healthy” or “light” has grown from 20.6% in 2018 to 25.2% in 2022.

The average ticket in July was 364 pesos. The categories with the greatest presence on the ticket were milk (18.2%), soft drinks (18.1%), sweet cookies (11.6%) and cigarettes (9.4%).
