The consumer price index rose 6.3% in October, thus accumulating a rise of 76.6% in the first ten months of the year, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

In addition, prices at the retail level between October of this year and the same month of 2021 marked an increase of 88%.

The price index for October was thus located one tenth above the measurement for September, when it marked an increase of 6.2%.

The Communication category, with an increase of 12.1%was the one that increased the most in the month, mainly explained by increases in telephone and internet services.

In second place was the item Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with 7.5%, mainly explained by electricity and gas with the implementation of the tariff segmentation.

The Food and non-alcoholic beverages category, which marked a 6.2% rise in the month, was the one with the highest incidence in all regions of the country, highlighting the rise in prices of vegetables, tubers, legumes and fruits.

During October, wage increases for workers in private homes also stood out, with an impact on the item Home equipment and maintenance, which marked an increase of 4.9%.

For its part, the increase in the share of prepaid medicine affected the Health division, which rose 7.1%; to which were also added tolls and fuel, plus the drag left by the increase in public transport fares in September, which impacted the Transportation division.

By categories, in October the monthly increase was led by Seasonal products and services, with an advance of 9%, partly explained by the increases in vegetables, tubers, legumes and fruits, followed by Regulated products, with an increase of 7.4%; while the CPI Core reflected an increase of 5.5%.

By region, both the area delimited by the Federal Capital and Greater Buenos Aires (GBA), as well as Patagonia, were above the general average with a rise of 6.6%.

In line with the average, in the Argentine Northeast provinces inflation in October was 6.3%.

While Cuyo marked a rise of 6%, the Pampean region, 6.1%; and the Northwest districts, 62%.

With regard specifically to food, the price of whole milk in sachets rose 17.3% in October, the five-liter bottle of sunflower oil marked an increase of 13%, the kilo of sweet potatoes increased 48, 4% compared to the previous month and the kilo of potatoes reflected an improvement of 57.6%.

In the vegetables sub-heading, the products that fell were tomatoes, with a decrease of 18%; and lettuce, -4.9%.

Thus, throughout the first ten months of the year, with a general average price rise of 76.6%, seasonal prices increased 114.9%; regulated services increased 66.3% and the CPI advanced 72.9%.

By region, in the GBA prices have risen 76.5% so far this year; in the Pampean zone, 76.1%; in Cuyo, 76.4%; in Patagonia, 77.1%; in the Northwest, 78.3%; and in the Northeastern provinces, 78.9%.
