The construction of the High Performance Center for athletes and athletes begins

With an investment of B/.47.5 million, this Wednesday, the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, began the construction of the High Performance Center (CAR), an important project for Panamanian sports that includes study, design, construction, equipment and financing.

The work that is in charge of the Panamanian Sports Consortium, the CAR, which will be located in the township of Juan Díaz, will generate more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, said President Cortizo.

This Center will be a space equipped with human resources, materials and the specialized services necessary for athletes to develop their sporting abilities to the fullest.

Cortizo Cohen pointed out that, with the start of the construction of the CAR for national athletes, his administration fulfills another of the commitments established in his government plan.

“For the first time in the country’s history, Panamanian athletes and athletes will have a sports complex where they can train properly for their best performance in international competitions,” said Cortizo Cohen.

The Chief Executive explained that this will be the largest space dedicated to sports built in our country since, in 1970, the facilities of what is now the Irving Saladino Sports City were inaugurated for the celebration of the XI Central American Games and the Caribbean.

The president announced that, with an investment of 47.5 million balboas that will generate more than five thousand direct and indirect jobs during its construction, the Center will be finished in 2025.

He highlighted that, throughout history, Panamanian athletes have shown that our small country has great talent and very special virtues in the sports field.

“From Lloyd LaBeach, in 1948, to Irving Saladino, in 2008, passing through Rod Carew, Mariano Rivera, Eileen Coparropa, Roberto Durán and many other glories of national sports have demonstrated over time the enormous human capital that exists in national sports. ”, he stressed.

He reiterated that, for his administration, sports and recreation are important factors for integral human development, because they contribute to forming better people, with more positive attitudes that foster self-esteem and unity among Panamanians.

“I am very pleased to start today this work that will remain as a legacy for current and future generations of athletes, as a tribute to so many Panamanians who gave their maximum effort to leave the name of Panama written on the highest rungs of world sport” , said the ruler.

The project includes a Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center, gyms for physical training, multi-sports gym, combat center, sports gymnastics center, aquatic center; volleyball courts, football courts with FIFA measures; and beach, basketball, outdoor tennis, track and field for athletics. Also a hotel, administrative and educational building, dining room, a parking area of ​​2,700 square meters, among other facilities.

The long-awaited High Performance Center is task 101 of the National Government’s Priority Action Plan executed by President Cortizo Cohen.

The event was attended by State ministers; the director of Pandeportes, Héctor Brands; deputies, more than 100 athletes from the Sports Stimulus Program, more than 50 leaders, local authorities and special guests.
