With the arrival of a segregated low event with rain, fall of snow and possible electrical storms in different parts of Chile, the weather forecast for this week has captured the attention of many. According to Meteored, a portal specialized in climate, snowfall is expected in various communes between May 15 and 16, after several frontal systems experienced in recent days.
This meteorological phenomenon will bring with it precipitation over the valleys and the coastal area between the region of Biobío and O’Higgins. Places such as Lota, Chillán, Cauquenes, Curepto or Licantén are expected to be affected by millimeters of water during the afternoon of Wednesday the 15th and the morning of Thursday the 16th.
In addition to the rains, snowfall will also be the protagonists, especially in the mountain ranges of the Maule, O’Higgins, Metropolitana, Valparaíso, Coquimbo and southern Atacama regions starting on Wednesday. This pattern will be repeated on Thursday the 16th, extending to mountainous territories of the region from Antofagasta, Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía.
These solid precipitations could continue intermittently until the weekend, covering a large territory. In addition, the possibility of localized hailstorms and thunderstorms in addition to the snow in the south-central part of the country, according to the Meteored website update.
Segregated lows, as explained above, are atmospheric configurations that can affect precipitation and occur at the highest levels of the stratosphere.
