After more than a month of search and ignored warnings, the 18 -year -old Colombian was found dead. The authorities took weeks to act despite the clues.
The Attorney General of Mexico City confirmed on Saturday, April 12, 2025, a chilling finding: the lifeless body of the Colombian Joan Esneyder Góngora Huertas, 18, was found buried in a park by Mayor’s Office Gustavo A. Madero.
The young Colombian had been reported as missing since February 25. His case, initially treated with indifference by the authorities, now becomes a symbol of institutional negligence and family pain.
As reported InfobaeJoan Esneyder resided in Ecatepec with his family. That last afternoon, he left home after an argument and did not return.
Since then, their parents began an intense search, marked by misinformation, the silence of the authorities and a crucial track: An anonymous call that assured that the young man had been killed and buried in a park where there was little migrant camp.
A park, a call and weeks without answers
As documented Univisionthe site indicated by the anonymous informant was located near the Central Axis Lázaro Cárdenas and the Northern Truck Central.
A migrant settlement worked until March 11. Despite the insistence of Joan’s family, Mexican authorities took weeks to inspect the place.
The young man visited the park on his own on multiple occasions. Only on Friday, April 11, almost a month and a half after the disappearance, forensic experts, firefighters and paramedics began excavations.
After more than eight hours of work, they found human remains: one of the bodies was inside a black bag, next to a jacaranda tree.
The next day, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that one of the bodies corresponded to Joan Esneyder Góngora. The second body has not yet been officially identified.
A place marked by abandonment
According to The Cali countrythe park where they found the bodies was dismantled weeks before, when the authorities persuaded migrant families to move to shelters.
Subsequently, the area was cleaned, which possibly altered the crime scene and delayed the collection of key evidence.
This scenario is not isolated. The National Registry of missing and not located Mexico reports more than 127 thousand missing. In Mexico City, there are already 6,195 cases. In many of them, families must assume the search alone, as Joan’s parents did.
The remains of the young Colombian are being subjected to complementary genetic analysis. Meanwhile, his family demands justice and asks for those responsible for the crime to be identified and captured.
