This town leads beer consumption in the country.

News Colombia.

When talking about beer, Germany is usually the first world reference. However, in Colombia there is a small town that defies this perception when registering per capita consumption superior to the European country: Sáchica, located in the department of Boyacá.

According to a report by Bavaria, the inhabitants of Sáchica consume on average 190 liters of beer per year per personwhich is equivalent to about 580 bottles.

In comparison, consumption in Germany is approximately 110 liters per year per capita.

This surprising fact makes Sáchica the municipality with the greatest consumption of beer in Colombia and one of the most beer in the world.

Agricultural work and beer culture

High beer consumption in Sáchica is closely related to its agricultural economy. The main activity of the municipality is the cultivation of Cabezona onion, a demanding job that requires long days under the sun.

For many farmers, beer has become the ideal drink to cool off and relax after a day of effort in the field.

Beyond the labor routine, beer consumption is also part of Sáchica’s social and cultural life. Local festivities, family gatherings and community meetings revolve around this drink, consolidating their presence in the daily life of the inhabitants.

A town with history and tradition

Sáchica is not only famous for her beer hobby, but also for her rich history and cultural heritage. Founded after Spanish colonization, the municipality was originally inhabited by indigenous Chibcha. Its architectural legacy is preserved in buildings such as the Doctrinet templehe Monte Calvario and the Stone of punishment.

Known as “The Jerusalem of Colombia”Sáchica is an important religious destiny. His Holy Week is one of the most representative of the country, with a spectacular staging of the Passion of Christ. Other outstanding events include the Sacred Music Festival and the Onion reignwhich celebrate both the religious tradition and the economic activity of the people.

A unique tourist destination

Beyond beer and history, Sáchica offers unmissable tourist attractions. In its surroundings it is GONDAVA, THE DINOSAUR THEMATIC PARKwhere the largest pliophole in the world is exhibited.
