With the active participation of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Santander (CAS), the Chamber of Commerce and other regional actors, the project seeks to guarantee the protection and conservation of this centenary species that, in addition to its ecological value, has a deep symbolic and cultural burden for the inhabitants of El Palmar. It is a tree that has been a silent witness of the passage of time, turned into a meeting point and pride for generations.
The declaration as National Heritage would allow not only to ensure its preservation against environmental and urban threats, but also to turn this tree into a central axis of sustainable local development strategies. “It is a historical step for the Palmar,” said Mayor Cristian Salas in the framework of a recent meeting with community leaders, highlighting the potential of CEIBA as a symbol of identity and environmental resilience.
Beyond the protection of the tree, this bet has as one of its main axes the promotion of ecological and cultural tourism. The objective is to position El Palmar as an unmissable destination within the Santander Tourist Corridor, attracting visitors interested in natural heritage and generating economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
The expected impact is not less: it is projected that the recognition of the CEIBA contributes significantly to energize the economy of the region, promoting new businesses, tourist routes, environmental fairs and educational activities that revolve around its history and conservation.
