During the Christmas and New Year festivities, 42 people died in the Dominican Republic due to traffic accidents, while 838 were affected by alcohol poisoning, of them 73 minors between 12 and 17 years old, 223 poisoned by food ingestion, reported the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in its final consolidated report.
The report states that of the total of 42 deaths inside and outside the operation, 32 were due to motorcycles, for 76%, three due to collisions and seven due to light vehicles, which compared to the same period of 2023-2024, there has now been an increase of four people who lost their lives, but also 500 thousand more people traveled than in the previous period.

Only in the period from 2:00 in the afternoon of December 30 to 6:00 in the morning of January 1, 30 lost their lives, 23 of them in motorcycle accidents, on the streets, highways and highways of the country, to which they add 12 between December 23 and 25 to total 42.
During the operation, the authorities recorded 158 traffic accidents, of which 123 involved motorcycles, 11 light vehicles, 10 run overs, two pickup trucks, nine SUVs, a bus, a van and a buggy, which left 30 people dead. between December 30 and January 1.
Of this total of deaths, nine occurred within the road safety device and 21 outside it, involving five light vehicles, two being run over and 23 by motorcycles.
The variables of chaos
During the operation three variables were managed: traffic accidents, alcohol and food poisoning. First responders assisted 30,042.
According to the final bulletin, around 7,700,000 people traveled to towns during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
