The Vice President of the National Securities Commission (CNV), Sebastián Negriraised this Saturday the organization’s concern for the increase in financial scams in the country and warned about the appearance of companies with infrastructure with levels of advertising, marketing and great penetration.
“You look worried; we started to receive an increasing volume of inquiries and some queries later became complaints, first anonymous and then some people who approached us with their concern regarding the return of their funds,” Negri told Radio Milenium.
After recalling that although there have always been people who informally dedicated themselves to managing people’s savings without being authorized, he warned that “when companies appear with infrastructure with such high levels of advertising, marketing and penetration, then the alarms go off.”
“The risk for investors is higher and the possibility of being late is much more worryingalready when the scheme is armed and the effect of exposing them is that people lose their savings,” he considered.
In that sense, explained that the CNV asks these companies for the contracts they sign with the peoplealthough he clarified that the agency does not have the power to break these contracts because “people can freely agree to what they want.”
But he was confident in being able to “regulate what we could define as misleading advertising”, because misleading advertising “is a problem and that is regulated in some parts of the world because there they do capture funds in a misleading way and there is a gateway to a possible scam.
“There is a component of financial education that as a regulator we do not have the penetration that we would like,” he lamented, while warning about “the unregulated world,” referring to “the investments in financial companies that, for example, invest in crypto, which today is a gray around the world“.
“When it happened (Generation) Zoe what we received was a lot of queries and eventually complaints about a lot of other companies; On some of them, we made inspections and with some we had hearings and we asked them to show us what they do with people’s money, “he detailed.
Finally, he recalled that the CNV warned about the issue of influencers a couple of days ago and stressed that “it is not the way for people to define an investment the comment of a person from the show saying that they trust their friends from such a place” .
