The National Intelligence Center (CNI) “is a key component of the National Security Strategy since strategic knowledge is generated to anticipate risks, dismantle threats and protect citizens,” said the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, when leading a ceremony to commemorate the 107th Anniversary of the Intelligence Services in Mexico.
The official pointed out that intelligence work has allowed the arrest of more than 38,700 people for high-impact crimes, 20,169 weapons and more than 311 tons of drugs have been seized so far in the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
In a solemn ceremony headed by García Harfuch and in which the Attorney General of the Republic, Ernestina Godoy, participated; the commander of the National Guard, General Hernán Cortés; The head of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), Francisco Almazán Barocio, and representatives of the institutions that make up the security cabinet, highlighted “the strengthening” of this CNI body (which from 1947 to 1985 was known as the Federal Security Directorate and later, until 2018, as the National Research and Security Center).
The strengthening of the CNI, said García Harfuch, is focused “especially on the increase in specialized personnel, with highly trained profiles, improvements in technology and information integration systems, the expansion of operational and strategic analysis capabilities, as well as the continuous professionalization of the intelligence body, all of this to offer the country the best possible intelligence service.”
The coordinator of the security cabinet said that “the work carried out by agents with discipline, vocation and deep love for the country is carried out in contexts of high pressure and risk”, whose “silent work is indispensable.”
The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, García Harfuch, explained that a central advance is the approval of the Law of the National Investigation and Intelligence System in Public Security, which strengthens the legal framework, institutional coordination and constitutional attachment of civil intelligence.
