During his homily this Sunday, the Archbishop of Santa Cruz, Monsignor Sergio Gualberti, condemned the lynching of people and stoning on social networks.
Gualberti lamented that the resource of doing justice by one’s own hand is always present in our society, despite being punished by the law of men and being a very serious sin before God.
“The testimony of Jesus, too, questions at the root the recourse to justice by one’s own hand, such as lynchings, a practice unfortunately always present in our society. These acts, in addition to being crimes punishable by law, are a very serious sin before God, because life is a gift from Him and no one and for no reason can take it away from others.
He stressed that “it is not only about physical lynchings, but also moral ones, verbal stonings, which today, in the era of globalized communication and social networks.”
He said that media opinion is often elevated to an unappealable court, judging and condemning people or institutions to moral death, conditioning even the administrators of justice.
