FAMILY MANIFESTO, A STEP FOR MY FAMILY. NOVEMBER 24, 2024

We are celebrating the thirteenth edition of the Un paso por mi familia 2024 Walk. In it, the families of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo want to highlight the importance of the family, founded on the marriage of a man and a woman. We recognize that the family is the first and vital cell of society.

Society and the State must recognize the family, so the government must adopt appropriate policies for the well-being of marriage and the family. Article 55 of our Dominican Constitution maintains that the family, founded on the basis of the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, must be promoted and protected by the State, since the good of the family is inalienable and inalienable. , in accordance with the law. In this way, the government must guarantee family well-being and stability through actions and policies that favor their subsistence and growth.

Currently, the family is in the midst of a changed and changing world, which forces us to be attentive to the transformations that occur and that threaten the stability of marriage and the family as God’s precious asset. Today, as a Church, we are vigilant to defend the family and the indissoluble marriage between a man and a woman, because despite the current changes, the world expects and needs the testimony of the Christian family, which counteracts the domestic violence that occurs in the heart of some homes.

A true family cares, loves and respects life from its conception in the womb until natural death. The family educates the affectivity and sexuality of its members in a comprehensive way and according to God’s plan, flatly rejecting the gender ideology that is imposed on them, and making use of our constitutional right to be responsible for the education of our minor children (cf. Article 63 Dominican Constitution).

Our Episcopal Vicariate of Pastoral Family and Life calls on the government, social responsibility and every person of good will to recognize the family, supporting it and seeking its stability so that we can enjoy a healthy society, since the well-being of marriage and the well-being of the entire society depends on the family (cf. GS 48).

For all this, WE AFFIRM that “the family must be the great protagonist of the public policies of the State.” In this way, WE REQUEST:

1. Guarantee the right to respect and protection of human life from conception to natural death, as supported by the Holy See, the declaration of human rights and our Dominican Constitution in its article 37.

2. Government agencies must provide help to the families most in need, namely: food, medicine and greater opportunities for families in situations of extreme poverty.

3. The government must establish low-cost housing plans, with assured financing, for needy families, control of the rental market; set equitable rates and communal networks, rates for gas, electricity, water, access to transportation services, school, among others, according to income and family load.

4. Family Assistance Centers must be created for families with coexistence difficulties, which contribute to protecting victims of violence, especially women, boys and girls. Support the Family House for families with difficulties.

5. The State and the Private Sector must guarantee sources of work for families to ensure daily sustenance, education, housing and a healthy environment that allows harmonious coexistence in equity and solidarity.

“It is sad that because of a small group of people with particular interests it has not been enacted,” the Catholic Church said in a manifesto during the 13th edition of the walk “A step for my family” that is celebrated every year on the Malecón in Santo Domingo. .

6. Comprehensive sexual education based on ethical and moral values must be implemented, both in families and in schools, which leads to healthy emotions.

7. The government must seek policies that are in favor of life and the family, avoiding gender ideology and everything that threatens life and the family. It is unfortunate that the family has so little support from the government and social responsibility, which causes the family to lose hope in their authorities.

8. Attention legislators and the central government: the country urgently needs the approval of the new penal code, but a healthy code that promotes and defends life and family. It is a pity that it has not been enacted by a small group of people with particular interests.

9. The FAMILY is the most important and valued institution in society, so supporting the family is seeking well-being and social stability. Political parties and public bodies must not forget that the Family is also the one that VOTES, so acting and legislating against it is doing so against themselves. LONG LIVE THE FAMILY!!!
