The president of the Frente Amplio (FA), Fernando Pereira, said Monday that the electoral contest by the Intendencia de Artigas will be centered between the Force of Left and Valentina Dos Santos, who was convicted of justice for usurpation of functions.
During his visit to the north of the country, Pereira asked the citizens of Artigas “a vote of confidence” so that the FA resumes the departmental government, as happened in 2010. “We want her to rule the honesty in Artigas again,” he said.
Despite the judicial conviction, Dos Santos has expressed his intention to run again, although the Board of the National Party decided to prevent the use of partisan motto in the next elections.
Pereira recalled that in the case of Artigas “it is not one or two crimes”, but a set of irregularities that includes the usurpation of functions and the improper payment of overtime for hundreds of thousands of dollars. “That research continues and it is not known how much it has really been investigated,” he said.
The leader also criticized the management of public resources during the management of Dos Santos: “What was not only abuse of power. Public monies were inappropriate in an apartment that has enormous poverty in reference to the national average,” he said.
