Juan Daniel Oviedo, current director of Dane, is currently one of the officials with the best approval of the government of Iván Duque. However, the official announced that he will not continue to lead the entity during the government of Gustavo Petro.

However, there are several challenges facing the entity for the next four years. One of them, and the main reason for Oviedo’s decision, is the multipurpose cadastre. The economist assured in an interview for El Tiempo that the government will face the search for financing to collect cadastral information in the country because the mayor’s offices do not have sufficient resources.
Likewise, continue in line with what Oviedo implemented and what he highlighted: disclosure of dane statistics. The senior official has been in charge of announcing the results of the key figures for the country. And, in turn, to explain them and understand what they represented for the country.
“People started to see why it was important to know what was going on with the economy, Covid, homes, poverty and the cost of living. All those issues became extremely important and there we were from the Dane trying to bring that data at the time it was, even when we were all confined”, Oviedo said in an interview for Forbes.
However, the effectiveness and continuation of the new measurements that were implemented in the new government is also a challenge. Between them, the Social and Business Pulse survey, that measured the temperature for the effects of the pandemic.
The Dane, in turn, began to make measurements not only in economic matters, but also in terms of people’s well-being. Oviedo advanced a whole perspective of gender and minorities that began to be included in the statistics and are now relevant for the generation of public policy.

In this sense, the new Government has the challenge of addressing the efforts that were highlighted in the most recent Dane period and aligning them with its objectives.
