The Central Bank awards the Economy award

The governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Hector Valdez Albizupresided over the award of the Annual Economics Competition Juan Pablo Duarte Library, during a ceremony in which three books cataloged as “core works for the nation’s economy” were also put into circulation.

Valdez Albizu highlighted the 40 years of the contest which over the years has been accredited as the most important contest economy of the country and the region.

“Through our contestthere are many young economists that have been recognizedwhile they have had the privilege of seeing their works published in careful editions, at the same time that they have been projected nationally and internationally, with the endorsement of an honorable jury, of great professional competence and ethical probity,” he said.

He first prize It was for the work titled: Risks in competition and labor mobility: characteristics and determinants of labor transitions in the Dominican Republicby the author of Amanda Carolina Lebron and Natanael Ventura Jimenezwho obtained 450 thousand pesos.

He second place fell at work: Tax reforms in an endogenous growth model with human capital calibrated for the Dominican Republic. Its author was Yanna Dishmey Martewho won 375 thousand pesos.

He third prize was awarded the job: Inequality and territorial segmentation as determinants of the impact of growth on poverty: evidence from spatial panels in the Dominican Republicmade by Cornelio Polanco Acosta and Nerys Ramirezwho obtained 300 thousand pesos.

He fourth prize It was for the work titled: Impact of climate change on economic growth and financial stability in the Dominican Republic. Its authors were Manuel Alberto Perez and Ardanys González Marcanowho took 225 thousand pesos.

and the fifth prize fell on the work titled: Multi-sector mapping and macroeconomic prediction of the adoption of mobile payments: A study with Graph Attention Networks and Random Forest. Its author was Peterson Marcellus Delgadowho obtained 150 thousand pesos.

Works

The books put into circulation were: New Dominican economic literature 2024, that collects the five award-winning works last year, from economists: Marvin Cardoza Espinoza (first prize), Yorkis Cayo Méndez (second place), Manuel Alberto Perez (third position), Marcos Noyola Rincón and Fidel Ernesto Morla (fourth prize) and Francys Rosario Rocha (fifth place).

Dominican economic bibliography 2023-2024, that compiles economic information of everything that is published in the country, from journalistic articles to academic theses, and that give an idea of ​​the intellectual activity and research about the national economy.

Reflections of the jury members on the fortieth anniversary of the Juan Pablo Duarte Library awards, in which the economist-jurors participated as co-authors: Opinio Álvarez Betancourt, former deputy governor of the Central Bank, consultant and academic; Indhira Santos, senior economist for human development in the Europe and Central Asia region of the World Bank; José Luis De Ramón, economic-financial consultant and university professor; Ramón González Hernández, deputy manager of National Accounts and Economic Statistics of the BCRD.

They were also co-authors of this work: Rolando Guzmán, consultant, academic and former rector of the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo; the consultants and academics of the BCRD, Osvaldo Lagares Féliz and Harold Vásquez Ruiz, the latter editor of the work, with which the four decades of existence of contest and what have been the experiences derived from it, and Huáscar Jiménez, former BCRD official and academic, who currently resides in Spain. Painter’s Elisa Vilorio completes the jury members for him contest.

During the act of award Governor Valdez Albizu was accompanied in the honor table from the vice governor, Clarissa de la Rocha de Torres; the manager, Ervin Novas Bello; the controller, José Taveras Lay, and the cultural deputy manager, José Alcántara Almánzar.

In addition, members of the Monetary Board: Arturo Martínez Moya and Sergia Elena Mejíaas well as other officials of the Central Bank, jury members and participants of the contest with their families.
