The demand for the census marked the opening day of the Expocruz 2022 international fair. In the official act, the president of Fexpocruz, organizer of the exhibition, Óscar Mario Justiniano asked the rulers do not politicize the issue and speed up the statistical study for 2023, because it is simply a necessity. In response, President Luis Arce Catacora said that he shares what the businessman said and that the survey will be carried out without pressure from small groups that seek to destabilize the country, but he did not mention a specific date.
Both in the intervention of Justiniano and Arce there was support from people who came to the Chiquitano room, where the event took place. There was even a moment when ‘the bars’ collided with choruses in favor of the Census and cries of support for Arce.
Cries of: “Census! Census!” and “I fight! I fight!” They mixed in the middle of the act of the 60th anniversary of the most important fair show in the country.
“Don’t politicize the Census”
In his speech, Justiniano recalled the beginnings of the exhibition that was conceived in a context of many needs and that, over the years, its growth helped drive the development of the region.
This remembrance was the preamble to raise the multiple needs of the population, both in health and education. He argued that when the population proposes a Census for 2023, it is done without any political interest.
“For this reason, when we ask for the National Population and Housing Census to be carried out, we do it, because thatIt’s the cry of the humblest people“, he pointed.
He then added that this is “the root of a demand that we Cruceños and the inhabitants of other regions of the country share.” In addition, he asked the Government work together to eliminate obstacles to the development of Santa Cruz and the country.
“technical census”
Arce’s response was immediate and guaranteed the realization of a technical Census and without the pressure of some power groups that, according to him, seek to destabilize the country.
“The census will be carried out with an eminently technical and professional criterion. rule out politicization by groups who want to create confrontation and uncertainty,” he said.
However, he did not speak of a specific date for the realization of this study, closing this topic in his speech. Afterwards, he spoke of the achievements of his management and the recognition that he has the macroeconomic performance of his management with low inflation figures and a trade surplus.
In this context, he argued that the Government will not heed the recommendations of the Monetary Fund International (IMF), as the Minister of Economy, Marcelo Montenegro, did earlier.
“Bolivia is once again recognized as one of the most stable economies in the region. We do not and will not accept impositions from the IMF,” Arce said.
He then highlighted the impact of the Expocruz fair and said that it is necessary to work together between the private sector and the government.
“We must strengthen the articulation of all the productive forms recognized by the Constitution (…)Let’s work on a joint agenda that allows to have a winning country. Let us move forward together generating encounter, dialogue and complementarity. We will make a qualitative leap,” said Arce, the first time he has spoken about working with the business sector since he became president.
Camacho, the great absentee
For the second consecutive year, the Governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, was not part of the opening act of the most important trade fair in the country due to the presence of 22 international delegations and more than 2,000 exhibitors. The Santa Cruz authority is one of the political champions that demands the completion of the Population and Housing Census by 2023. proposed not to invite government authorities central as retaliation for the intention to keep the census for the year 2024.
