The capital is the one that provided the most support among the 32 entities in the country with 508,475 signatures in favor of carrying out the consultation, more than double (223.14%) the goal of 3% participation of the Nominal List that was required to give green light.
In percentage, it is located only below Tabasco – where López Obrador is from – which obtained 247.95% of the necessary support; however, having a smaller population than the capital, this is equivalent to only 129,102 firms.
With a smaller presence in the north and part of the center of the country, the capital will play a vital role in the revocation of the mandate, says Jorge David Aljovín, consultant and specialist in Electoral Law.
“Mexico City will be preponderant because it is one of the operational arms of President López Obrador, along with his hometown and the south of the country, where they will have to demonstrate their political strength because this will allow them to gain strength towards the 2024 process,” he says in an interview. with Political expansion.
However, beyond reaching 40% of the Nominal List that is needed for the result of the consultation to be valid, the objective will be to measure forces, says Gustavo López Montiel, professor at the School of Social Sciences and Government at the Tec from Monterrey.
“The revocation of the mandate is an exercise in mobilizing structures, what the president is really looking for is that the electoral structures have to be mobilized all the time and he knows it because the PRI has been like that,” he explains.
