The Ministry of Public Health (MSP), issued a document due to the proliferation of cases of the so-called “Monkeypox”. It has reported more than 80 cases in a dozen countries. Nations such as Spain, Italy, Portugal and Canada have seen an increase in cases.
Meanwhile, from the health portfolio, it was indicated that “The first human case was reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”
Since then, most of the reported cases “come from rural areas of the tropical forest of central and western Africa, where it is considered endemic.”
“It is transmitted to humans by various wild animals, in initial cases the infection occurs through direct contact with blood, meat, skin lesions or mucous membranes of infected animals. Transmission from person to person can occur through close contact with secretions from the respiratory tract or skin lesions, cases of sexual transmission have been reported.
“They usually start on the face and then spread to the rest of the body, affecting the face, palpation of the hands, soles of the feet, and can compromise the oral mucosa, genitalia, and eyes. Complete removal of the scabs can take up to three weeks. The optimal samples for diagnosis are those from the lesions: smears of exudate from vesicular lesions or scabs”.
Monkeypox incubation period
The same, according to the ministry is from 5 to 21 days. It produces fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes among others.
