With a ceremony held in the Che Guevara Hall of the House of the Americas, in Havana, it opened this Monday The 2025 edition of the Casa de las Américas Literary Award.
The opening ceremony was headed by the renowned Chicana writer Cherríe Moragawho offered a speech with a strong political and social content.
Moraga denounced him Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian peopleand criticized the policies of President Donald Trump, as well as the direction of the Salvadoran government led by Nayib Bukele.
The author also called to face gender violence, migration crisis, threat to original cultures, colonialism, fascism, oligarchies, and all kinds of racial discrimination and sexual identity.
For his part, Jorge Fornet, director of the House Literary Research Center, stressed that this year The contest received around 1,500 works, a reflection of a broad regional call.

In addition, he presented to the jury of the different categories, composed of writers from Cuba, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina and Venezuela.
The institution announced on Tuesday that in the “story” category, The jury is made up of Daniel Quirós (Costa Rica), Socorro Venegas (Mexico) and Sergio Cevedo (Cuba).

Also, as part of the initial day the exhibition “The duty to start over. 65 years of the Literary Award, the Editorial and the Magazine was inaugurated HOUSE OF THE AMERICAS”, Installed in the José Antonio Echeverría Library.
