One day after officially announcing the decision of the directors of the leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic not to be represented in the next edition of the Caribbean series, based in Caracas, a decision is expected from the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) on the possible holding of the tournament in an alternative venue.
In a official statement, The organization reported the decision of the three countries, based on “external situations beyond its control,” and added that it continued to “responsibly evaluate the situation, considering different available alternatives.”

Despite avoiding details, it is evident that the situation comes hand in hand with the tense situation in which Venezuelaunder the growing threat of military intervention by the United States, which has escalated in recent hours due to the order from the Donald Trump Administration for a naval blockade.
In the midst of these circumstances, the option of a headquarters transfer has gained strength, with the Mexican city of Guadalajara – with its Pan American stadium – as the favorite to take charge of the organization.
According to what has emerged, several members of the CBPC would agree with the new scenario, based on the success of the Series held this year in that country, with the ability to have other options available such as Mexico City and Monterrey.
If the tournament headquarters remains in the Venezuelan capital, it would have the participation of the champion team of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP), along with representatives of four other invited nations, including Cuba.
Cuba received official invitation for the 2026 Caribbean Series
The return of a Cuban cast to the Caribbean Series is due, to a large extent, to the position assumed by the LVBP, which raises certain doubts that the invitation will remain valid in the supposed case that another of the member leagues assumes the alternative organization.
This situation has a not-too-distant precedent, since another complex internal political situation that Venezuela was experiencing in 2019 forced the transfer of the stage from Caracas to Panama City, where the Leñadores de Las Tunas team performed for Cuba.
Another of the venues considered so far has been the city of Miami, host of several previous editions, the last in 2024.
However, specialists see it as very unlikely that the southern Florida city will take charge of the tournament, taking into account that only a month later it will host one of the groups of the World Baseball Classic (WBC).
