The Cabinet Council gave the green light to the Urban and Home Cleaning Authority (AAUD) to extend three garbage collection contracts in the capital city. These contracts, valid since 2023, have expired since July, but the AAUD decided to extend until on February 28, 2025.
These contract extensions will allow collection services to remain operational until February of next year, with a total cost that amounts to B/.13.2 million. The contractors involved in this operation are Consorcio Covelia for Zone 1, Metropolitana de Aseo, SA (EMAS) for Zone 2, and Pronto Aseo, SA for Zone 3.
On the other hand, at the meeting, Addendum No. 2 to the contract between the Panama Metro and Alstom Panama was approved. This modification is intended for heavy maintenance services of the first 20 trains of Metro Line 1, covering 800,000 and 1,200,000 kilometers. The addendum will allow an additional cost of up to $2,858,482.30, raising the total contract budget to $10,243,482.30 and extending its term from 48 to 62 months.
It is important to note that although the contract is a continuation of an existing agreement with the French company Alstom, Panama maintains restrictions for new contracts with countries that appear on discriminatory tax lists, a situation that does not affect this extension. In addition, the Council authorized the contract between the Metro and Edemet for the electrical connection project for Line 3, at the Albrook station, for an amount of $11,200,108.14.
