“Love is magic, a simple fantasy…”, says the song by Tito El Bambino, but it is also a business that the February 14th record higher profitability. This year, despite the social unrest, sales expectations are high, although still marked by uncertainty.
One of the sectors that is already enlisting engines is delivery. The Marketing Director of PedidosYa Peru, Macarena Poblete, explained that orders in restaurants are expected to increase 50%, while in stores such as flower shops, pharmacies and the like, the increase is 70%.
For this date, he explained, the hour of greatest demand is noon, and the products that are required are varied.
“In stores, boxes of roses, chocolates, packs of rum and soda, wines, beers, condoms are preferred. In restaurants, hamburger combos, pizzas, and sandwiches are in demand,” he said.
Flowers and stuffed animals are still part of the tradition of this date. Pablo Rodríguez, general manager of the Galafin flower shop, explained that because of February 14th “It sells up to 50 times more than a normal day.”
The excitement for the festivity is so great that the average ticket amounts to S/150; however, the amount may increase according to what is requested.
“The public has become more demanding, they ask you for more details in the arrangements. The typical flower box has been relegated, so we also innovate”, she assured.
Last year, the sector was still hit by restrictions related to the pandemic, and for this 2023 the main obstacle they present, according to the businessman, is conflict.
“The political and social issue has affected us because we bring flowers from the interior of the country. So, by blocking the roads, costs are increased and there are also flowers that don’t arrive”, he commented.
Cusco is one of the regions affected by the crisis; however, the general manager of Novotel Cusco, Juan Tapia, assured that they are preparing everything necessary so that people can enjoy the February 14th.
“We offer the necessary guarantees so that they can enjoy an evening without worries, whether it is due to the rains or the demonstrations,” he stressed.

In addition to the traditional, such as flowers or outings to restaurants, there are other gifts that are also sought after, says Grace Rojas, Sokso’s business manager.
In this sense, he affirms that people bet on giving away purses, wallets, “even a complete outfit.”
For him Day of Love or Day of Friendship, people also opt for other types of entertainment. The manager of Mallplaza’s Peru Division, Martín Romero, indicates that movie theaters and game spaces are highly demanded options at that time.
Likewise, he considered that “although we are in a situation of social crisis, we are optimistic because the population needs safe meeting points that have a varied offer that meets their needs.”
Despite the crisis, this Valentine’s Day promises to boost the turnover of all businesses.
