After four days of paralysis, the bus drivers of some 100 provincial and municipal transport lines of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) have announced the end of the strike transport that had affected public services since last Saturday, January 22.
This was confirmed this Wednesday by the two business chambers that represent mobilization companies Y transport public of the AMBA: the Business Chamber of Autotransport of Passengers (CEAP) and the Chamber of Transport of the Province of Buenos Aires (CTPBA).
In a joint statement, both associations of transport they announced that “The measure of force that governed the AMBA since Saturday has been lifted completely” and they recognized “the work and the good will” of the Buenos Aires authorities to comply with the demands.
“The regional transport strike in the AMBA zone has been lifted in its entirety. We apologize to the users affected by the paralysis of services in some 100 municipal and provincial transport lines”, reads part of the statement.
What did the public carriers ask for?
According to the text, quoted by the newspaper El Destape, bus drivers from the Metropolitan Area asked the Buenos Aires government to disbursement of monthly subsidies for the payment of fuel and other essential resources, which had not been credited for several months.
“An agreement was reached with the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, and the Ministers of Transportation from Buenos Aires and the Nation, Jorge D’Onofrio and Alexis Guerrea, so that the total disbursement of the debt with the carriers is carried out. We appreciate the goodwill and the gesture of negotiating”, the text concluded.
