With the arrival of high temperatures, within the framework of the beginning of summer, the Government from Buenos Aires plans to make an investment of between $800 thousand and $900 billion to guarantee energy service throughout the province.
The Buenos Aires Undersecretary of Energy, Gastón Ghioni, explained that the Government will implement the so-called “Summer Plan” to meet the demand for energy during the hottest season and, in addition, the executive seeks to guarantee supply at the most critical points.
In an interview with Radio Provincia, the official of the Government from Buenos Aires pointed out that, since last year, “They have been working with the provincial transportation companies to address the problem of cuts in the electrical service”.
The undersecretary stressed that the issue of cuts is of great concern, which is why, from now on, they are analyzing all kinds of strategies to avoid it and, together with the companies, they are evaluating which are the most critical points.
“In the middle of the year we began to work with the distributors and transporters, to see where the greatest deficits and restrictions existed and a plan was put together to improve the tension, but this year the high summer temperatures arrived earlier; so we have just installed the mobile generation equipment, ”he indicated.
Within this framework, “the places where there are faults in the high voltage lines were identified and a plan was launched, whose investment this summer will be between $800 and $900 million.”
In addition, he explained that this investment that he makes the provincial state will benefit the users of “the four large provincial distributors: EDEA, Edelap, EDEN, EDES and 200 electrical cooperatives from different parts of the Buenos Aires territory.”
Due to the high temperatures, a new record in energy consumption was recorded
This week average temperatures of 36°C have been reached, even, in some provinces, they have exceeded 40°C, where red alerts have been issued due to the heat wave. This situation, in turn, leads to higher energy consumption due to the use of fans and air conditioners.
In this context, last Tuesday a record in electricity consumption was recorded for one business day: 28,283 MW, which put electricity networks to the test. This led to supply cuts in some areas of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
