The legislator of the Buenos Aires Front of All, Claudia Neira, asked the head of Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, to appoint a Minister of Security for the City replacing Marcelo D’Alessandro, who took a llicense as a result of his alleged participation in chats for a trip to Patagonia with judges and media managers.

The deputy made the request through a draft declaration presented in the Legislature, which was also signed by her colleagues from the opposition bench Claudio Ferreño, Manuel Socías, Cecilia Segura and Juan Manuel Valdés.

In addition, he urged the Buenos Aires Secretary of Security, Elizabeth Caamaño, “to urgently convene the Security and Crime Prevention Council of the City”.

“There are innumerable number of complaints that we have received in recent times that verify a general deficit in our City’s security service,” Neira asserted and was also concerned about “the unusual institutional seriousness that comes with the absence of official data published on its crime statistics website”.

In this sense, he pointed out that “the City is going through a particular situation today” given that “the head of government is visiting the provinces in his presidential race, the deputy head resigned his position to present himself as a pre-candidate for governor in the province of Buenos Aires Aires and we currently have a Minister of Security on leave”.

“The residents of the City do not deserve the destruction of the institutions as we are currently experiencing. For this reason, it is necessary to appoint a new Minister of Security who will put all his efforts into solving the serious problems that we are going through and that the City put into operation the constitutional body that has been created to favor these solutions,” he said.

The Security and Crime Prevention Council It is a body of a constitutional nature, created by Law 1689 that commits the presence of multiple actors to design, evaluate and structure public policies on the matter.

As Neira explained, the Council “is far from being formed despite all the regulations that support it. The Constitution of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires establishes its conformation in its article 35.”
