Since yesterday (Thursday) the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz de la Sierra began to pay the school incentive of Bs 100 for students in the initial and primary cycle. From early on, the fathers and mothers of the family lined up at the branches of Banco Unión to collect the benefit. Some came accompanied by their children and stated that they will invest it in the purchase of school supplies and medicines.
The benefit reaches 220,000 schoolchildren in the Santa Cruz capital.
Leonora García, mother of three children, ages 6, 8 and 9, pointed out that the Bs 300 will be invested in school supplies, despite the fact that this amount is not enough to purchase all of what is requested on the lists. “With Bs 100 you can buy textbooks, which is the essential, and then you have to buy notebooks, filing cabinets, sheets and pencils, making a total of more than Bs 150 per child,” said the woman from the line at the branch of the bank in the area of the double track to La Guardia.
The municipal director of Education, Raúl Ascarrunz, informed that the delivery of this benefit is done according to the termination of the card number. “With this incentive we are contributing to education, having a support element for students and parents, so that they can send their children to the educational units,” said Ascarrunz.
The payment schedule for this incentive indicates that from February 9 to 15 it will be paid to those ending in 1 and 2; from February 16 to 26, for 3 and 4; from February 27 to March 5, from 5 and 6; from March 6 to 12, from 7 and 8; from March 13 to 19, from 9 and 0; and from March 20 to 24, for the laggards.
The payment of this bonus is made in all branches of Banco Unión. Parents must present their identity card and a copy of it to collect the benefit.
Lis Cartagena, one of the mothers who lined up yesterday, hoped to be able to collect the bonus for the purchase of medicines for one of her two daughters, but due to the lack of updating the QR of her ID, she was unable to do so. Like them, there were several parents who had this problem.
Ascarrunz, who upon realizing the inconvenience, contacted one of the managers of Banco Unión, to find a way to solve the problem.
“It has given the instruction to all the branches so that they can pay the bonus to the students with the QR code on their identity card. The list of students sent by the Ministry of Education only has the authorization for those who have the identity card number that specifies the place of issuance of the document”, assured Ascarrunz.
