The new president of the Frente Amplio is Fernando Pereira, as confirmed at a press conference in La Huella de Seregni by the current coordinator of the political force, Ricardo Ehrlich.
Pereira, who left the presidency of the PIT-CNT to run for the presidency of the FA, obtained 67.09% of the votes in the elections on December 5. In second place was Gonzalo Civila with about 10% and in third place Ivonne Passada, with 5.5%, according to the last cut of the scrutiny. 12.61% voted blank and those annulled were 4.61%.
Civila and Passada could not be present at the event, who sent their greetings and congratulations and apologized for not being able to arrive due to personal matters. The three continued to state that they will work in unity to advance the Broad Front and, in the short term, the greatest challenge that is on the horizon: to win with “Yes” in the referendum against the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration ( LUC).
“The FA has an immediate challenge, which is the referendum” that will seek to repeal “the worst 135 articles of a law that should not have been approved,” said Pereira in his acceptance speech for the presidency, adding that the FA “is leaving to be placed behind the organizations that called ”the referendum.
“In the referendum we play a lot, but in the FA there is no final battle. It is not a final battle, it is a battle for the Uruguayans, “he added.
