The Broad Front is celebrating its 52nd founding anniversary with an act that started around 6:30 p.m. in Parque del Plata, Canelones. The occasion has the presence of political leaders and their militancy.
On social networks, the official account of the Broad Front has highlighted the event as “another year of struggle for a country of opportunities.” During the act, the participation of local artists such as Alejandro Balbis and Rolando Paz is expected, as well as the political leaders of the Youth Commission of the Canelones Broad Front, the former Minister of Public Health, and the president of the Broad Front. In an interview with Telemundo, the mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, described the event as “the response to the desire to come together in a new key.”

Uruguay’s Broad Front is a left-wing political force founded in 1971. For decades, it fought as a force in opposition to the country’s traditional governments. In 2004, the Broad Front managed to win its first national government with President Tabaré Vázquez. During his tenure, she implemented sweeping social policies, including a universal health care system, a housing plan for the working class, and a free education policy. These policies contributed to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of Uruguay and increased popular support for the Broad Front.
In 2009, José ‘Pepe’ Mujica took the lead, taking office on March 1 and, until March 1, 2015, continued to implement broad social policies during his second term. He returned Tabaré Vázquez in a second term to give the FA three consecutive victories until 2020.

Despite these vicissitudes, the Broad Front continued to be an influential political force in the political life of Uruguay until its departure from power in 2020.
