The BRICS Summit will be July 6 and 7 in Rio de Janeiro

The leaders of the BRICS countries will be held on July 6 and 7 in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, announced on Saturday.

Brazil exercises this year the rotary presidency of the Block of Emerging Economies, which brings together Russia, India, China and South Africa, among other countries.

“In July of this year, on July 6 and 7 (…) we will receive in the city of Rio de Janeir And associates, “Vieira said in a video posted in X by Mayor Eduardo Paes.

In the appointment “we will make very important decisions for the development of all these countries, for cooperation and for the improvement of the life condition of all inhabitants,” he added.

The US president, Donald Trump, reiterated on Thursday his threat of imposing 100% tariffs on BRICs countries if they try to end the international domain of the dollar.

Trump had already made that warning in November, even as an elected president, after in October at the last summit of the block in Kazan, Russia, the impulse to the transactions in different currencies to the US currency was on the table.

The government of the leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that under the Brazilian presidency the BRICS will focus on promoting cooperation between countries of the Global South and the reform of multilateral institutions.

Among his priorities he mentioned “the development of means of payment” to facilitate trade and investments between member countries.

In January, the Brazilian negotiator chief for the block, Eduardo Saboia, said in an interview with the AFP that “there is no project” to replace the dollar, but an discussion about the use of local currencies in transactions.

Created in 2009, the group was recently expanded with the inclusion of countries such as Indonesia, Iran, Egypt and United Arab Emirates, in addition to a dozen associated countries, including Cuba, Bolivia, Nigeria, Algeria and Turkey.
