The scarcity of bottles that Dominican National Brewery (CND) reported that it was suffering until last December, it could worsen due to a strike carried out by several bottle associations.
Through a letter sent to Diario Libre, the National Association of United Botelleros announced that it began a national strike last Monday demanding that the CND comply with a series of demands, including the alleged non-compliance by the company with an increase in incentives.
One of the members of the association, who preferred to withhold his name, explained that every week each bottle rack sends to the Brewery between 250 and 300 thousand bottles empty and that the union currently has 175 members who support the strike.
He indicated that another of the reasons for the strike is that the CND buys the bottles a peso and a half, the same price that -as he pointed out- he also uses to buy those from informal vendors. He stated that the strike, which began on February 28, will be lifted when the company responds to their claims.
The source pointed out that so far the CND has not taken into account their proposals or the agreements reached. “We have the support of the winemakers from Santo Domingo, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Santiago, the Northwest Line, Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez and Samaná, among others,” he said.
Last December, the CND announced that, due to the lack of containers, a shortage of beer could arise and called for the bottles were returned.
“Brewery has only received 57% of the bottles ordered abroad for 2021 (2% more compared to the last report issued in October), something that still prevents covering the current demand and that expected for the end of the year holidays”, the company communicated then.
The Brewery was consulted on the subject, but at the close of this edition had not spoken.
