MADRID, Spain.- The United States Embassy in Havana urged Cuban migrants not to try to enter the country through the Mexican border, as they will be returned, especially after a strong operation implemented in recent days.

“More than 140 federal personnel, including from DHS, USCIS and the Department of State, as well as personnel from the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, have been deployed to support activities in the regional centers, which help direct migrants to legal paths at the beginning of their journey, long before reaching the southern border,” the consular headquarters explained Monday through Twitter.

“The border remains closed to irregular immigration,” the entity reiterated.

Already last week the Embassy had warned that thousands more people are being detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the United States Customs and Immigration Service (ICE) and processed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for evaluate their asylum applications under the new regulations on avoiding legal avenues.

“Those without a credible fear have been and will continue to be expelled expeditiously,” the embassy said.

Last January the Biden administration, when announcing the policy of humanitarian parole that facilitates the orderly entry into the United States of more than 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti, also announced the restrictions to the entry of migrants at the border.

However, last May the US authorities returned to Mexico more than 1,400 migrants from these countries under the Title 8 law, which establishes the return of those who enter the United States illegally without having evidence of credible fear. These people can be banned from entering the northern country for a period of five years.
