Sergio Abreu presented a new edition of his essay on the Triple Alliance
With the participation of the renowned historian and undersecretary of Education and Culture Ana Ribeiro, the secretary general of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI), Sergio Abreu, presented an updated and expanded reissue of his book entitled “La vieja braid”, in the framework of the 44th Book Fair.
The book highlights the leading role of figures such as José Gervasio Artigas, Justo José de Urquiza, first president of the Argentine Confederation, and Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, Barón de Mauá, a Brazilian banker who had business in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
In this way, Abreu exposes the alliance between the Buenos Aires directorate and the Brazilian army, agreed to defeat the artiguista project and developed throughout the history of the La Plata region until it crystallized in an Argentine-Brazilian bilateral relationship with a force of permanence. .
In an original and entertaining proposal for the reader, the author describes the central political axes to understand the present from the past, from the independence process to the consolidation of national states, after the War of the Triple Alliance, through the great regional confrontation between unitary and federal.
“The old braid” reviews the decades in which those ties between Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro were strengthened to become a strategic alliance that, according to Abreu, remains to this day.

He was president of the Uruguay Round of the GATT and of the Ministerial Conference of Marrakech, origin of the World Trade Organization.
