The lifeless body of Ghanaian soccer player Christian Atsu was found under the rubble of a residence in the Turkish city of Hatay, one of the most destroyed by the strong earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6.
The footballer’s representative in Turkey, Murat Uzunmehmet, confirmed the death of the international player for the Ghanaian national team and the Turkish club Hatayspor, Turkish media reported.

Christian Atsu was 31 years old, played as a forward and was part of the eleven for Porto, Chelsea and Newcastle, among other clubs. In 2015 he was voted Best Player of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He leaves behind a wife and three children.

More than 43,000 dead between Turkey and Syria
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake has so far left more than 43,000 dead in Turkey and Syria, according to the latest official balances.
Officials and doctors say 40,642 people have died in Turkey and 3,688 in Syria since the earthquake on February 6, for a total of 44,330 confirmed deaths.
The number of wounded rises to 122,757 (108,000 in Turkey and 14,757 in Syria).
