With a view to training professionals, of the Indigenous Peoples, in various disciplines and that their identity be valued, on the afternoon of this Monday, February 21, the Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the National Assembly of Panama approved in the first debate the project of Law No. 764, which creates the Autonomous University of Indigenous Peoples.
This project, which was presented by the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, would help develop the knowledge, philosophy, science, wisdom, spirituality and ancestral cultural riches that the Indigenous Peoples possess, since these topics will be included in the curriculum university academic
In its article 1, the project establishes that the Autonomous University of Indigenous Peoples (UAPI), will be established as the official university of the Republic of Panama and its headquarters will be in Buibiti or Llano Tugrí in the Ngäbe Buglé Comarca.
The university will be autonomous, with legal status and its own assets, with the power to administer it and to organize its plans and programs of study, research and services.
Teachers, students and administrative staff of other ethnic groups will also have access to this university.
