The entrance of the Great Power It is the big party in the city of La Paz. No other cultural event in the seat of government concentrates so much attention and dedication of its participants, as this festivity, which has its origin in religious devotion to Jesus del Gran Poder.
The 2022 version of this party, which took place this Saturday, June 11, was highly anticipated by people, since two years had elapsed without due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic emergency.
In general, this party generates a large economic movement that can be seen in the contracting of bands and orchestras with international experience and in the acquisition or freight of clothes and costumes.
It is for this reason that the mayor of La Paz Ivan Arias highlighted this event, because he considers that encourages economic reactivation in the town and congratulated the leaders of the Association of Folkloric Ensembles of Gran Poder, organizers of the entry, for carrying it out successfully.
Control
The previous versions of the cultural festival, which this year it has moved at least 200 million dollarshad been criticized in previous versions for the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages during the dancers’ tour, as well as by the spectators.
This Saturday it was possible to verify that this detail was controlled by the authorities, since the drunkenness of other years was absent in important places where the entry was developed.
The Mayor’s Office deployed nearly 1,300 officials to carry out the respective controls on the dancers regarding compliance with biosecurity measures, vaccinations and that they do not consume alcoholic beverages on the tour.
However, this control was partial since the consumption of alcohol, especially in the surrounding streets, was evident.
Likewisethe sanitary measures were strict with the public, especially with regard to the use of the chinstrap, a mandatory garment to be able to appreciate the live show. Dancers were not required to use it. Although there were some “stains” among the spectators, it was possible to see that there were those who ignored the use of a chinstrap.
Another aspect that was criticized wasand the lack of punctuality in the more than 70 fraternities who participate in the party. An example of this was that, after 8:00 p.m., fraternity number 33 was just making its way through the official box.
Among the groups that stood out at the entrance were the brunette Professors and the foremen of San Simónwho interpreted the most traditional rhythms, together with other fraternities that danced diablada, kullawada, sayay, tinku, waka waka and tobas, among other dances of this festival.
The festivity this year stood out because its title of Intangible Cultural Heritage was premiered in style of Humanity, awarded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
