The Bicameral Intelligence Commission of Congress summoned the former deputy director of the Federal Intelligence Agency (AFI) Silvia Majdalani on Monday to testify about the complaint of illegal espionage during the Cambiemos administration and the alleged staging of legal cases against trade unionists.

The decision to summon Majdalani for 5:30 p.m. this Monday was made last week after receiving the former head of AFI Gustavo Arribas, who refused to testify and submitted a brief before the members of the commission, led by the pro-government deputy Leopoldo Moreau.

The former officials of the intelligence agency were mentioned before the parliamentary commission by some participants in the meeting that took place in 2017 at the Buenos Aires headquarters of Banco Provinciain which businessmen, authorities of the AFI of the macrista management and officials of the administration of María Eugenia Vidal spoke about how to promote causes against union members.

The former operational director of Counterintelligence Diego Dalmau Pereyra, who said he attended the 2017 Bapro meeting to supervise the recording of the cameras, he indicated that he attended due to an alleged order from Arribas that Majdalani retransmitted to him.

The Bicameral began the investigation into the so-called Buenos Aires judicial table after the AFI comptroller, Cristina Caamaño, denounced before the Federal Courts that she had found a video of that 2017 meeting at the Buenos Aires headquarters of Banco Provincia, in which, it was later learned, spies also participated in activity.

The Commission has already summoned the three former directors of the AFI of the macrista management who participated in the meeting: the former operational director of Counterintelligence, Dalmau Pereyra; the former director of Legal Affairs of the AFI, Sebastián De Stéfano, and the former chief of staff of the agency, Diego Biorci.

Dalmau Pereyra presented a brief in his judicial investigation and later ratified his statements before the Bicameral: “In June 2017, the deputy general director of the AFI, Silvia Majdalani, relayed to me the order of the agency’s general director, Gustavo Arribas, to attend and supervise the filming of a meeting to be held at the main headquarters of Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires, in the city of Buenos Aires,” he said.

At that meeting, strategies would have been analyzed to advance in the organization of cases against unionists, in particular against the then leader of the Uocra La Plata, Juan Pablo “Pata” Medina.and it was during that conversation that former Buenos Aires Minister of Labor Marcelo Villegas said that he would have liked to have a “Gestapo” to act against the trade unionists.
