The beginning of autumn hits the pockets of middle class chilangos

In October, inflation rose to 4.76% annually in Mexico, with a monthly advance of 0.55%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Inflation hits the Chilanga middle class

Bx+’s analysis, however, focuses on the evolution of prices of a basket of goods and services for the middle class of Mexico City. And although there was a respite, it was partial. Although the increase in inflation was 0.07% monthly for the CDMX middle class, annual inflation remains close to 14% for its specific basket of goods.

To do this, consider that the middle class is the population that receives 50,000 pesos on average per month in income per household. And, in October, inflation hit like the cold.

The clothing, footwear and accessories component rose 9.61% in its monthly comparison, just below the Telephony component, which rose 10.93% in October.

These shocks were offset by a “correction in the Leisure and Culture component, of 10.05% (…) Its decrease could be explained by the monthly adjustment in the prices of both tourist packages and plane and bus tickets, that in September they would have been pressured by the Independence Day holiday,” the document explains.
