The contract for the modernization of the Huancayo – Huancavelica railway will be awarded by the end of this month, as announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Perez Reyes. This project will improve the quality of life of more than 1.2 million Peruvians.

The project will include the modernization of 128.7 km of railway track, the rehabilitation of seven stations and 20 stops, the acquisition of two modern locomotives, three passenger cars and five freight cars. In addition, new rails will be installed on the main line, wooden sleepers will be replaced with concrete ones, 15 railway bridges will be renovated and 38 tunnels will be reinforced.
The project also includes the rehabilitation of drainage works along the road, the creation of auxiliary areas and the implementation of modern signalling, communication and telecommunications systems.

The winning company will assume responsibility for the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the railway, in a concession contract that will extend for 30 years, five for design and construction, and the other 25 for operation and maintenance.
