The art of the circus reached Cota 905 to teach Wayuú boys and girls

The Manzanoarte group presented this Saturday, January 28, a circus art show in which the circus is promoted as a social tool and this time it is made by Wayuú boys and girls from the community of Cota 905, in the La Quinta sector. The children are students who graduated from an educational program sponsored by the French Embassy in Venezuela.

Manzanoarte, a circus art project that has been developed by the Escuela de Circo Social in Venezuela as a cultural platform to promote art as a tool for social transformation, began the year by broadening its focus and reaching the Wayuú community that lives in the sector The Quinta de la Cota 905.

This project is an initiative that has been possible thanks to the support of the French Embassy in Venezuela, within the framework of the Pissca 2022 strengthening program.

The objective is to create bridges between the indigenous communities of rural and urban areas, and offer an educational program in circus art to Wayuú boys and girls from a displaced community and native of La Guajira (Zulia) that has been established at Cota 905, in the La Quinta sector, in Caracas.

After two weeks of training, the Wayuú boys and girls trained by the Manzanoarte team in soil acrobatics, aerial acrobatics, juggling and artistic expression classes, they made a presentation on Saturday, January 28 in their community to exhibit what they had learned.

As part of the educational program, they also carried out a cultural exchange activity called “Tell me a story”, in which there was an exchange of knowledge with the children of the Wayuú ethnic group to learn their songs, language and learning their weaving arts. Their cosmogony and ancestral knowledge will be incorporated into the children’s artistic presentations.

It is an event that closes the educational program and is seen as a “graduation” in which students will present their final show to show the skills they have acquired.

To this day of culture and community that will take place this weekend with the Wayuú children of Cota 905, the students of the Social Circus School of the rural community of Manzanillo (La Guaira) will join, who participate in a program of continuous training in circus art coordinated by Manzanoarte. In total, more than 30 boys and girls will participate.

Among the local artists that will be part of the event, the duo Los Babuinos (made up of the co-founders of Manzanoarte, Zorybel García and Luis Bogado, aka The dwarf); beatbox artist Jhoabeat, Illusionist Bismarck, La Rouse (Venezuelan clown artist based in Belgium), and music artist Brian.

Also noteworthy is the participation of international artists: Emiliano Ron, aka The Rope Master, from Argentina, who is invited to Venezuela for the second time; and the Swiss-Venezuelan company La Bulle d’art based in Geneva, Switzerland.

In addition to his work at Cota 905, Manzanoarte plans to continue the educational program with children from a Piaroa community in the Amazon, where they will travel from February 9 to 24.

Taking advantage of the possibilities of circus art as an instrument for recreation, alternative education and strengthening social inclusion in vulnerable and excluded communities is part of his vision.
